4. Discussion Essay

 

Dạng bài Discussion Essay yêu cầu người viết thảo luận về hai vấn đề hoặc quan điểm trái ngược nhau và đưa ra ý kiến cá nhân. Đặc biệt, người viết cần phải thể hiện ý kiến trung lập giữa 2 vấn đề. Sau đó, từ những phân tích trên, người viết có thể đưa ra ý kiến cá nhân.

 

Ví dụ: Some people believe that zoos serve an important educational purpose, while others argue that they are inhumane. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

 

Hướng làm bài: 

• Introduction: Paraphrase câu hỏi và nêu quan điểm cá nhân 

• Body paragraph 1: Phân tích chi tiết và đưa ra ví dụ minh họa cho quan điểm 1

• Body paragraph 2: Phân tích chi tiết và đưa ra ví dụ minh họa cho quan điểm 2

• Conclusion: Tóm tắt cả 2 ý trên và nêu quan điểm cá nhân.

 

 

5. Two-Part Question Essay

 

Đây là bài viết với hai phần câu hỏi liên quan đến chủ đề cụ thể. Bài viết này yêu cầu bạn phải trình bày ý kiến của mình và đưa ra lập luận và ví dụ để hỗ trợ quan điểm của mình với từng câu hỏi.

 

Ví dụ: Competition for university study is becoming increasingly intense. 

• Why are universities becoming more competitive? 

• Is this a positive or negative development?

 

Hướng làm bài:

• Introduction: Paraphrase lại vấn đề và nêu quan điểm cho 2 câu hỏi trên

• Body paragraph 1: Phân tích và đưa ra ví dụ cho câu hỏi 1

• Body paragraph 2: Phân tích và đưa ra ví dụ cho câu hỏi 2

• Conclusion: Tóm tắt lại 2 ý chính đã trình bày trong phần Body.

 

 

+ Cách phân tích đề bài 

 

Trước khi làm bài, thí sinh phải hiểu rõ yêu cầu của đề bài qua những câu hỏi kiểm tra mức độ hiểu đề bài, giúp thí sinh có định hướng viết phù hợp như:

 

• Topic của đề bài là gì?

• Đề bài thuộc dạng bài nào?

• Những keywords quan trọng là gì? Phân tích những keywords này như thế nào?

 

Ví dụ 1: In many countries, the level of obesity among children is increasing. Discuss the causes of this problem and offer some solutions.

 

+ Topic “ Level of obesity among children is increasing ”

+ Đề bài thuộc dạng Causes and Solutions 

+ Những keywords quan trọng: level of obesity, children, increasing 

 

Ví dụ 2: Some people argue that the death penalty should be abolished, while others believe it is necessary for maintaining law and order. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

 

+ Topic “ Death penalty ” 

+ Dạng bài Discussion 

+ Keywords:  death penalty,  should be abolished,  necessary, maintaining law and order

+ Hướng phân tích: Phân tích cả 2 luồng ý kiến và nêu quan điểm cá nhân ở kết bài.

 

Ví dụ 3: Today, people are surrounded by advertising. This affects what people think is important and has a negative impact on people's lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

 

+ Topic “ Effects of advertising ” 

+ Dạng Agree or disagree 

+ Keywords: surrounded by advertising, affects, people think is important, negative impact on people’s lives.  

+ Hướng phân tích: có 4 hướng phân tích: Totally Agree / Disagree cho Statement “ This affects what people think is important and has a negative impact on people's lives” hoặc Partly Agree cho statement “ has a negative impact on people's lives ”.

 

 

Phương pháp phân tích đề bài trên sẽ là cơ sở để thí sinh lập dàn bài và hoàn thành bài viết một cách chính xác và nhanh chóng, tránh việc bị nhầm lẫn với các dạng bài khác hay bị lạc đề trong quá trình viết. COMMON TYPES OF WRITING TASK 2 AND HOW TO DO IT (PART 2 )

4. Discussion Essay 

 

The Discussion Essay format asks the writer to discuss two conflicting issues or points of view and offer their own opinion. In particular, the writer must express a neutral opinion between 2 issues. Then, from the above analysis, the writer can give a personal idea. 

 

Example: Some people believe zoos serve an important educational purpose, while others argue that they are inhumane. Discuss both views and give your opinion. 

 

Directions for the test: 

• Introduction: Paraphrase questions and state personal opinions. 

• Body paragraph 1: Analyze in detail and give examples that illustrate point 1 

• Body paragraph 2: Analyze in detail and give examples that illustrate point 2 

• Conclusion: Summarize both of the above points and state your personal views. 

 

5. Two-Part Question Essay 

 

This article has two sections of questions related to the specific topic. This article requires you to present your opinion and give arguments and examples to support your point of view with each query. 

 

For example: Competition for university study is becoming increasingly intense. Why are universities becoming more competitive? Is this a positive or negative development? 

 

Directions for the test: 

• Introduction: Paraphrase the issue and make a point on the above 2 questions 

• Body paragraph 1: Analyze and give examples for question 1 

• Body paragraph 2: Analyze and provide examples for question 2 

• Conclusion: Summarize the 2 main ideas presented in the Body section. 

 

+ How to analyze the topic 

 

Before taking the test, candidates must understand the requirements of the test through questions that test the level of comprehension, helping candidates have an appropriate writing orientation such as: 

• What is the topic of the topic? 

• What kind of lesson is it? 

• What are the important keywords? How do we analyze these keywords? 

 

Example 1: In many countries, the level of obesity among children is increasing. Discuss the causes of this problem and offer some solutions. 

 

+ Topic " Level of obesity among children is increasing." 

+ Causes and Solutions 

+ Important keywords: level of obesity, children, increasing 

 

Example 2: Some people argue that the death penalty should be abolished, while others believe it is necessary for maintaining law and order. Discuss both views and give your opinion. 

 

+ Topic " Death penalty " 

+ Discussion format 

+ Keywords: death penalty, should be abolished, necessary, maintaining law and order 

+ Analysis direction: Analyze both opinions and express personal views at the end. 

 

Example 3: Today, people are surrounded by advertising. This affects what people think is important and has a negative impact on people's lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 

 

+ Topic " Effects of advertising." 

+ Agree or disagree format 

+ Keywords: surrounded by advertising, affects, people think is important, negative impact on people's lives. 

+ Analysis direction: there are 4 analysis directions: Totally Agree / Disagree for the Statement " This affects what people think is important and has a negative impact on people's lives" or Partly Agree for the statement " has a negative impact on people's lives ".

 

The above method of analyzing the topic will be the basis for candidates to make an outline and complete the article accurately and quickly, avoiding being confused with other types of papers or digressed during the writing process. Practicing problem-solving combined with referencing various questions will improve your writing and analytical ability, helping you to have the best preparation for the IELTS Writing test.
